‘Artificial Intelligence in Spotify’ informational video #ALM102DC

My new video about Artificial Intelligence in Spotify is now uploaded on YouTube as the second assessment of this unit. Check out the video below:

How Spotify expands your music horizons using Artificial Intelligence (AI) via YouTube
Video Brief

Digital media context

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically its implementation in Spotify’s music recommendation features.

Goal

  • Highlight the prominence of AI in the music streaming service
  • Offer a perspective on how integrated it has become in our day-to-day applications.

Audience

  • As of 2021, about 55% of over 350 million users are between ages 18-34 (Hlebowitsh 2021).
  • The demographic consists of Millennials and Generation Z who are exposed to technological advancements suggesting that AI is heavily relevant in their lives.

Objective, key takeaways, and academic article

Call-to-action

  • Encourage audience to participate in experiencing Spotify’s AI-supported features

Process and reflection
Planning

I started by collecting research regarding my topic then using that to write a script for the voiceovers. Before writing the script, I quickly planned the structure of the video such as including a hook, introduction, body, and outro.

Snippet of the script I wrote

With the script, I drew out a storyboard detailing the visuals (stock videos, text, demonstrations, etc.) and sound effects that would accompany the voiceover. Simultaneously, I searched for Creative Commons videos, images, and sound effects.   The storyboard proved to be very helpful but I could’ve made it simpler and saved a lot more time.

Afterwards, I worked on preparing the visual content needed based on the storyboard such as filming, screen-recording, and animating GIFs on Procreate.

Filmed content

The final preparations before editing the video was recording the voiceovers which I did on my smartphone, and finding suitable background music. I collected four different tracks to divide the four parts of the video and to indicate the progression of sections.

Editing

The first thing I did on Adobe Premiere Pro was insert my voiceovers and music to the timeline where I used the audio settings to clean my voiceover and establish the music as a backing track. I managed to get rid of the humming background noise, adjust volume, and made it sound like it wasn’t too close to your ears.

Editing audio settings on Adobe Premiere Pro

During the editing process, I made many adjustments that far went against the original storyboard due to considerations regarding the listening and visual components, and because I anticipated that the video length would far exceed the limit. I initially planned to include sound and visual effects be more appealing, however, I did not end up using those because I felt that it would be too overwhelming since the video turned out to be fast-paced. Moreover, the background music itself was already quite interesting and I felt that including additional sound effects would ruin the audio’s rhythm. I had to also cut down on a lot of material because I predicted it to exceed 4 minutes had I stuck to my original plan. Significantly, I removed the recap and further summarized the ‘What is AI?’ portion of the video.

I’ve learned a lot more about editing on Premiere Pro through this assessment and using Creative Commons content. What I could work on would be speeding up my planning process and improve it in general. Although I attempted to thoroughly plan out everything in advance, there were still specific details and issues I wish I had anticipated.
